Huge hills
containing piles of snail,shell fish, and sponge suggest that Sabzevar
had been part of the sea bed almost 65million years ago.
Archaeological Background
According to
the latest archaeological findings,the earlist footprints of tool maker
man have been traced in Sabzevar's Rudab and Davarzan,which belong to
the Neolithic age 12thousand years back.There have also been discovered
permanent and temporary settlements in Sabzevar ,which are as old as 6
thousand years
Traditional Arts
Sabzevar once
used to be the hub of handicrafts industry .Today ,however,the
traditional arts market is experiencing some kind of stagnation and
recession in the absence of artistic initiations and innovations .In no
more than a handful of traditional workshops,people are still engaged in
Giveh (traditional footwear) making,felt making,copper works,clay
works,basket making and turnery.These and similar products are supplied
to the rural markets and do not really comply with traditional and
artistic standards.
Currently,carpet weaving is the most rewarding traditional industry
dominant in Sabzevar's rural and urban areas .Carpet weaving,similar to
other traditional and artistic industries is experiencing recession.
